I was born in France to Sara and Michel Cerf. When I was young we moved to Israel.
Art school
In Israel I joined the "School of Arts" where I got to study Acting, Filming, Music, Drawing, and Dancing. As a kid I participated in some TV shows in Israel. Later, I became a writer for some of those.
High school
In high-school I studied Physics and Computer Science. I wrote my honors thesis on the topic of "Artificial Intelligence". My practice in the field of A.I. and my mathematical and language skills led to my becoming part of a special unit in the Israeli Defense Force's Intelligence.
Army
In the Intelligence I worked on mathematical and algorithmically-oriented projects in fields related to cryptanalysis and security.
Log-On
Immediately after my army service I started working as a programmer and a team leader at Log-On.
B.Sc
While working at Log-On part-time, I studied Physics for my B.Sc. at the Tel-Aviv university.
Systematic Inventive Thinking
Towards the end of my studies, I started working as an Inventor in a patent company called SIT.
Master's in Philosophy of Science
I earned my Masters in Philosophy of Science from the Tel-Aviv University. My thesis subject was "The search for a scientific explanation to Consciousness", under the supervision of Professor (Major General) Isaac Ben-Israel. Since my thesis topic was somewhat interdisciplinary I was able to study both the sciences and the arts, resulting in a thorough education in Computer Science, Film & Television, Philosophy, Psychology, Literature, History, Biology, Medicine, Languages, and Law (in some of the above I am close to eligible for a degree).
Check Point
During my Master's studies I worked as a trainer for the research and development department in Check Point.
Extracurricular
During my time at the university I pursued some activities. I trained to be an airpilot on both single and multi-engine airplanes. I practiced rock climbing often, and was involved in various political activities such as being a regular member of the Tel-Aviv student council. Towards my 4th year in the univeristy I acted as the vice president of the council. I practiced playing the piano.
TTI Telecom
After my time as a trainer for Check Point, I joine TTI Telecom were I was a customer trainer. On behalf of TTI I was educating customers on security applications. I was working with many companies - mostly in the far east - spending nearly a year in Hong Kong. The customers I worked with included Hutchison Hong Kong, Nextel, Telia of Sweden, and more.
Bar-Ilan University
After getting my Master's in Philosophy of Science I joined hands with Professor Avshalom Eliztur from the Bar-Ilan University working on the hard problem of consciousness. I received the prestigieous President Scholarship for Excellent Ph.D. (a 4 years scholarship) from Bar-Ilan that funded my research.
Hebrew University
Developing increasing interest in brain research I joined the Interdisciplinary Center for Neural Computation at the Hebrew University, where I formally studied brain sciences. After two years of studies I joined Christof Koch's lab at Caltech where I pursued my Ph.D. in computational neuroscience.
iMPERVA
While studying for my Ph.D. in the Hebrew University I was working as a senior security consultant. At iMPERVA I was working mainly as a penetration tester for various banks and federal institutes. The tests included breaking into the clients computers and providing assistance in ways to better-secure the systems.
Art Center College of Design
While studying computational neuroscience at Caltech I pursued art studies at the Art Center College of Design. I mainly took classes in animation, modeling and computer games development using Maya.
Caltech
At Caltecvh I worked in Christof Koch's lab. Collaborating with doctor Itzhak Friend from the Neurosurgery department at UCLA, we performed studies on attention and perception using direct recordings from brains of patients. In addition I was working on various eye-tracking studies with subjects with various psychiatric disorders such as autism, agenessis of the corpus callosum, face blindness, amygdala lesions, and more.
Now...
Graduating from Caltech I started working as a postdoctoral research fellow.
